Don’t be confused but the inconspicuous outside and the pub looking interior.
Because Smoking Goat boasts some seriously impressive Thai meat.
It’s not one for your veggie mates, with a few (no less delicious) Thai salads on the menu, but the meat really takes the lead role in this gaf around Soho.
My favourite dish hands down was the crispy duck. That this isn’t a permanent feature on the menu is almost criminal, but it did taste that much sweeter. It was actually so good that after polishing off the first lot, we ordered a second.
We were washing it down with one of the nicest bottles of Riesling I’ve had in a long time. Funnily enough we ordered a second one of those too (and maybe a third but who’s counting?)…
Also on the specials was a Jungle Curry- one of my faves. We were lucky enough to grab the last of the portions before they sold out…
The beef Nahm Dtok with lemongrass & chilli had a more delicate flavour than the crispy duck and jungle curry, but was still seriously good….
In amongst the meat feast, we ordered the Grilled Hispi Cabbage with chilli, peanuts & soy and a Northern Som Tam- you can’t beat a good spicy green papaya salad.
Another favourite of mine was the Coal Roast Scallop Red Nahm Yum. I usually claim not to be a huge scallop fan (they remind me of eyeballs…), but combined with the tasty fresh sauce, I couldn’t resist slurping them from the shell.
They’d forgotten to bring the wings but we couldn’t leave without trying them…so we pushed past our full stomachs to try a portion of the chilli fish sauce ones.
Don’t be put off by the fish sauce description, what these actually are is wonderfully cooked meaty wings with a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. Worth that post meal muffin top experience.
