What a Yolk: Market Cafe, Broadway Market

As I find myself tucking in brunch at the Market Cafe, Broadway market, I’m having a bit of a realisation. You see, there’s certain things in life I never saw myself enjoying. If you’d told me 6 years ago, where every night was an excuse for a night out and every morning was time to recover (and cringe at the previous nights antics), that my ideal Saturday would be spent cycling around I would have laughed in your face.

But my new favourite way to spend Saturdays (admittedly, still often hungover) is to get on the bike and explore new places in London… and by explore, I really mean hunt out new brunch spots, find new coffee shops &  stumble across afternoon wine bars for some hair of the dog…

Still admittedly trying to master the whole cycling part….

My friend was staying with us from Manchester so we cycled up the canal and headed to Market Cafe, which sits on the corner between Broadway Market and the canal. It is always heaving (we’d tried to go before but our hunger outweighed the wait), and there are tables both indoors and outside. This time we were lucky and sat straight down, ready to get stuck in.

The menu is full of your usual favourites, done really well. From Yogurt and Granola, to a Full English, to Pancakes or Avocado Toast, there is something for whatever your brunch craving.

Expresso Martini for breakfast anyone?

I went for the Avocado and Poached Eggs on Sourdough Toast (with a cheeky off menu side of Halloumi- the obsession is real). The avocado was more like guacamole and this was no bad thing…. I would be happy if smashed avocado got replaced with home made guacamole more often.

….and while my knife was no match for the crusty bread, it was a tasty base for the Eggs & Avo.

I may have stolen some bacon….

I’m not mad keen on mushrooms, but even I had to admit these were good- rich and buttery tasting.

As we left, one of the guys working there took the playlist up a notch, blasting out  backstreet boys….We left dancing, and we hadn’t even started drinking again (yet)…

In future, I know it’s worth the wait.
