I’ve been a Modern Pantry fan for a while. I used to work in Moorgate, and on the corner, hidden behind a luxe silver curtain was a world of incredible twists on classic favourites…
Back in the day the standard order was a Spicy Tomato Juice (or, you know, Bloody Mary!), two perfectly poached eggs & toast with crispy halloumi (don’t get me started on the halloumi) , buttered spinach, lemongrass roast vine ripened tomatoes and a side of bacon (because I obviously didn’t already have enough food on my plate!)
Recently however, it was a gorgeous sunny day. I’d cycled to Heartcore and we decided to carry cycling on to the Modern Pantry Clerkenwell, to sit outside and enjoy brunch. While we opted to enjoy the sunshine, the inside was major decor goals, with the multiple rooms making it feel like you were having brunch in a (really nice) home.
But enough of the decor- I had come for a feeding! Feeling virtuous post Reformer Pilates (and still a little nervous on my bike) I refrained from the £5 Prosecco, Buck’s Fizz, or Bellini (of which they do a clementine, black cardamom and saffron version- mmmm) and opted for an Instagram worthy (and very tasty) Turmeric Latte.
For mains, J opted for the Sugar-cured New Caledonian prawn omelette, green chilli, spring onion, coriander, smoked chilli sambal.
I opted for the garam masala roasted banana, cocoa, date & pecan cereal, toasted almonds & cashews, coconut yoghurt & passionfruit. It was rich and chocolatey without being too sweet, and the perfect reward for a Saturday morning workout.
Not only does the Modern Pantry offer a relaxed brunching atmophere and an exciting menu, but it’s reasonably priced (Prawn Omlette £9.80, yogurt £7), making it my new favourite weekend hangout.
