I love that in the City, new places can pop up without you even realising. Ember was one of those places. Set in a downstairs area, by Monument tube station, we hadn’t realised it was there until we were invited for lunch… and what a discovery it was.
As it was Friday, we felt it only fair to start with cocktails. The list was impressive, as were the names- from a Mountain Mist or a River Dragon, to a Japanese Hard Shake (I couldn’t help giggling at that one). Many had Asian influences, with ingredients such as Matcha Green Tea Foam and Wasabi Syrup. They tasted (and looked) as good as they sounded.
With our cocktails we nibbled on some Salmon & Nori Crackling with Sweet Chilli Jam- a bit like a very tasty Asian version of Pork Cracking.
Ember has one of those menus where you want to try just about everything on the menu. A unanimous decision was made on the Wagyu Beef & Foie Gras Burger with smoked chilli miso relish, sugar cured streaky bacon, sriracha mayo and gruyere. I don’t even know where to begin with how good it tasted….
Other highlights from the menu included the Pork Bao Bun & the Savoury Doughnut (it might sound strange but it tastes amazing!).
While it may have been a surprise to discover Ember, it’s sure to become a firm favourite.
