I was more than a little bit excited for GoodRoots Festival, held in Dalston- a collection of all my favourite types of healthy food in one place- perfect. We were treated with goody bags, with treats including sachets of coconut oil, Pip & Nut, a Burt’s Bees Lip balm and ProperCorn. This setting was an industrial warehouse (MC Motors), with mazes of rooms full of stalls dedicated to healthy living, and an outside area with food stalls, including the Mae Deli, Spicebox and Nama.
We had arrived in perfect time for lunch. While queuing I nibbled on samples from Livia’s kitchen, while Livia stood diligently signing boxes. I started with a dish from Spicebox– Cashew and Coconut Summer Veg Korma, with Brown Basmati Rice and Kauchumber Salad topped with cashews, crispy onions, pickled onions, tamarind chutney and raita. I was blown away by the combination which created a comforting yet fresh dish. For dessert I headed to Nama and tucked into a slice of raw cheesecake. It was as good as it looks, with cashew creaminess.
After lunch and a wander, we headed to our 3pm talk on blogs with Melissa Hemsley, Madeline Shaw, Vlogger Niomi Smart and Liberty London Girl– what a line up! The girls were incredibly inspiring to listen to, although I was slightly distracted by just how glowing they really were in real life.
My box contained turmeric roasted cauliflower & lentils, charred kale & broccoli, pequillo pepper & walnut hummus and a red quinoa & beetroot salad. Each part tasted amazing, fresh and filling in its own right, and I finished wishing I worked within the Mae Deli’s vicinity for a bowl of this goodness every lunch time. Since I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to sample even more (slightly) healthy sweat treats I took a Mae Cake topped with CoYo Vanilla yogurt and a strawberry for after- the perfect end to an inspiring day.
