Auction Against Hunger

Action Against hunger, in collaboration with Street Feast hosted their annual Auction Against Hunger at Hawker House in Canada Water on 26th May. This year’s impressive line up included Nuno Mendes (Chiltern Firehouse), James Lowe (Lyle’s) and Hamish Brown (ROKA), with guest appearances from street food traders such as Yum Bun, Rola Wala and Prawnography. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, there was unlimited Mojitos (and wine and beer and gin)- all in the name of this fantastic cause.

Oysters anyone?

What did I eat? What didn’t I eat:

Sake Sake Sake- Maki with crispy skin, Nigiri with inure and teriyaki glaze and Tataki with sesame ponzu and sweet potato from Hamish Brown @ ROKU

Whiting and wild garlic mayonnaise from James Lowe @ Lyle’s

Dexter sirloin and crispy black tiger prawn with bean sprouts, wild chive, nacho pear and chilli garlic and lime vinaigrette from Meat Hook & Prawnography

Naga Lamb Vindalho on a black charcoal naan with cucumber pickle, fresh mint and naga pomegranate chutney from Rolo Wala (one of my favourites from the evening!)

Crackle Shack: 100% Angus beed cheeseburger topped with pork crackling, malt vinegar and ShackSauce from Shake Shack (shamefully my first Shake Shack experience, but totally worth the wait) plus a frozen custard: salty peanut butter chocolate custard topped with cocoa nib peanut brittle

USDA brisket bun with pickled red chilli from Smokestak

Crispy cod cheek steamed bun with pineapple and chilli glaze kohlrabi and coriander slaw and gochujang mayo from Yum Bun

Snicker brownie bites with salted caramel sauce and peanut brittle from Bad Brownie

Tamale verde de Cerdo y pipian from Breddos and Nuno Mendes @ Chiltern Firehouse/Taberna Do Mercado (my first tamale- I’m now on the hunt for my next)

Tamale verde de cerdo y pipian

On reflection, I see why I pretty much had to roll home…
